What is it?

Markdown Formatting Assistant is a plugin that adds a panel of formatting buttons to Obsidian.

You no longer have to remember how to write **bold**, > [!info] or - lists. Just click a button — and it all gets inserted.

Why do you need it?

🔰 For beginners:

If you’re just starting out in Obsidian, Markdown can be intimidating. This plugin turns the interface into something familiar — like in Word or Notion: bold, italics, headings, links, callout blocks — all at hand.

⚙️ For advanced users:

  • Quick formatting of templates and texts
  • Speeds up working with callout blocks, code, tables
  • Useful when creating content for Publish or presentations

How does it work?

  1. You install the plugin from Community Plugins.
  2. You click the icon on the left and the Markdown-insertion options appear in the right window.
  3. You select the text → click the format you need.

You can customise it: which buttons to show, their order, styles. To do this, choose only Toggle Callouts (for example) in the settings then you need to restart Obsidian.

What people say on the forums and in the chat?

  • “It’s like a Notion panel in Obsidian. A lifesaver at the start.”
  • “I use it when putting together courses — handy when there are a lot of headings and highlights.”
  • “Really helps when working with templates — you don’t get distracted by the syntax.”

Conclusion

If you want to think less about syntax and more about the meaning of your notes, Markdown Formatting Assistant is your friend. Especially at the beginning.

📌 Tip: combine it with Callout Manager to style your notes like visual guides or articles.
